California School Age Families Education Program (CalSAFE)

The Vista Unified School District Teen Parent Program operates and is funded under the California School Age Families Education Program, also known as Cal-SAFE.  Cal-SAFE is a school-based program for expectant and parenting students and their children.  The program provides academic and support services to help students to stay in school.  Child care and developmental services for their children are offered in a hands-on learning lab located on the high school campus.

AVHS Teen Parent Program

Our VUSD Teen Parent Program and Child Care Centers are held to the highest standards.  Being on a school campus the program is license-exempt. However,in our dedication to excellence, we choose to be licensed and NAEYC Accreditated. The National Association of programs for young children represents the mark of quality in early childhood education.  In the city of San Diego there are six Teen Parent Program Districts.  VUSD is the only program that is both licensed and NAEYC accrediated.

NAEYC accredited programs invest in early childhood education because they believe in the benefits to children and families.  Early childhood experiences—from birth to age 8—have an enormous impact on children’s lifelong learning and positively contribute to their health and development.  Early childhood education programs with the mark of quality benefit children with greater readiness for success in school.
